Lupherites was named by Imlay (1973) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Lupherites senecaensis.

It was assigned to Stephanoceratidae by Imlay (1973); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
