Myriophyllia loulensis was named by Rosendahl (1985). Its type locality is Olho de Agua, Loule; Sao Romao, Peral and Cabeca Beds, which is in an Oxfordian/Kimmeridgian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone/marl in Portugal.
