Taxonomy
Gastrochaenolites ampullatus was named by Kelly and Bromley (1984). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is BMNH 15174, an other, and it is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Mbweni, Zanzibar, which is in a Pliocene/Pleistocene marine horizon in Kenya.
