Notidanus aptiensis was named by Pictet (1865).

It was recombined as Notorhynchus aptiensis by Cappetta (1975), Underwood and Mitchell (1999) and Underwood (2004); it was recombined as Notorynchus aptiensis by Siverson (1997); it was recombined as Gladioserratus aptiensis by Underwood et al. (2011) and Guinot et al. (2013).
