Lamna macrorhiza was named by Cope (1875). It is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Odontaspis macrorhiza by Dalinkevičius (1935); it was recombined as Plicatolamna macrorhiza by Itoigawa (1977); it was recombined as Leptostyrax macrorhiza by Cappetta (1980) and Cappetta and Case (1999).
