Taxonomy
Stethacanthulus was named by Zangerl (1990). It is not extant. Its type is Denaea meccaensis.

It was assigned to Stethacanthidae by Zangerl (1995); to Falcatidae by Ginter et al. (2010); and to Symmoriidae by Ivanov et al. (2013) and Ivanov (2015).
