Taxonomy
Listracanthus was named by Newberry and Worthen (1870). It is not extant. Its type is Listracanthus hystrix. It is the type genus of Listracanthidae.

It was assigned to Ichthyodorulites by Hay (1902); to Chondrichthyes by Mutter and Neuman (2006); and to Listracanthidae by Martill et al. (2014).
