Taxonomy
Hybodus africanus was named by Broom (1913). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bekkers Kraal, which is in a Triassic terrestrial sandstone in South Africa.

It was recombined as Lissodus africanus by Brough (1935), Maisey (1987), Biddle (1993) and Duncan (2004).
