Taxonomy
Belemnobatis variabilis was named by Underwood and Rees (2002). Its type specimen is NHM P.65442, a tooth (anterior (male?) tooth), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Durlston Bay DB 181, which is in a Berriasian lagoonal grainstone in the Durlston Formation of the United Kingdom.
