Taxonomy
Rhinobatos picteti was named by Cappetta (1975). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Les Barbiers, La Tulière, which is in an Aptian marine marl in France.

It was recombined as Belemnobatis picteti by Underwood and Rees (2002) and Underwood (2004).
