Metahaploceras was named by Spath (1925) [Sepkoski's age data: J Kimm]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Taramelliceras (Metahaploceras) by Spath (1925), Schlegelmilch (1994) and Schairer and Schlampp (2003).

It was assigned to Taramelliceratinae by Arkell et al. (1957); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Taramelliceras by Spath (1925), Schlegelmilch (1994) and Schairer and Schlampp (2003).
