Distylopus was named by Yoshimoto (1975). Its type is Distylopus bisegmentus. It is the type genus of Distylopinae.

It was assigned to Tetracampidae by Carpenter (1992); and to Distylopinae by Yoshimoto (1975) and Gumovsky (2017).
