Leptogastrella was named by Rasnitsyn (1975). It is not extant. Its type is Leptogastrella leptogastra.
It was assigned to Praeaulacidae by Rasnitsyn (1988); to Bethylonymidae by Rasnitsyn (1975) and Carpenter (1992); and to Kuafuidae by Rasnitsyn and Zhang (2010).
