Mitonia was named by Renz and Alvarez (1979) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo-l]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Mitoniainae by Renz and Alvarez (1979); to Mammitinae by Wright et al. (1996) and Wright (1996); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
