Neancyloceras was named by Spath (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-u K Maes-u]. Its type is Ancyloceras bipunctatus.

It was assigned to Diplomoceratinae by Kennedy (1993) and Kennedy and Summesberger (1999); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
