Dimorpharaea tosaensis was named by Eguchi (1951). Its type locality is Togano-mura, which is in a Tithonian/Berriasian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in Japan.
It was recombined as Comophyllia tosaensis by Beauvais (1989).
