Taxonomy

Texanites was named by Spath (1932) [Sepkoski's age data: K Coni-u K Camp-l]. It is the type genus of Texanitinae.

It was reranked as Barroisiceras (Texanites) by Renz (1982).

It was assigned to Peroniceratidae by Wright (1952) and Benavides-Caceres (1956); to Barroisiceras by Renz (1982); to Collignoniceratidae by Thomel (1988); to Texanitinae by Kennedy et al. (1973), Kennedy and Cobban (1991), Kennedy and Christensen (1991), Kennedy and Cobban (1993) and Kennedy (1995); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
