Iscopinus was named by Kozlov (1974). It is the type genus of Iscopininae.
It was assigned to Pelecinidae by Kozlov (1974); to Apocrita by Carpenter (1992); and to Iscopininae by Rasnitsyn (1980), Johnson (1992) and Zhang and Rasnitsyn (2004).
