Stereochorista was named by Tillyard (1919). It is not extant. Its type is Stereochorista frustrata. It is the type genus of Stereochoristidae.

It was assigned to Stereochoristidae by Tillyard (1923), Riek (1956) and Willmann (1978); and to Neoptera by Carpenter (1992).
