Protechiurus edmondsi was named by Glaessner (1979). Its type specimen is GSN P44 and is an impression. Its type locality is Vendian fauna, Kuibis Formation, - Glaessner 1979, which is in an Ediacaran marine sandstone in the Kuibis Quartzite Formation of Namibia.
