Taxonomy
Atopocystis mucronata was named by Pedder (2004). Its type specimen is USNM 520312 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bartine Member 1990-5, which is in an Emsian marine limestone in Nevada. It is the type species of Atopocystis.
