Parasilesites was named by Imlay (1959) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-l K Albi-m Sepkoski's reference number: 943]. Its type is Parasilesites bullatus.

It was assigned to Silesitidae by Imlay (1959); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Silesitoidinae by Szives (2007) and Robert et al. (2018).
