Scoliechinus was named by Arnold and Clark (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo Sepkoski's reference number: 577].

It was corrected as Scholiechinus by Donovan (1993).

It was assigned to Toxopneustidae by Fell and Pawson (1966) and Donovan (1993); and to Temnopleuroida by Sepkoski (2002).
