Fibularina was named by Gray (1855). It is extant. Its type is Fibularia.

It was reranked as the family Fibulariidae by Durham (1966), Donovan (1993) and Kroh and Smith (2010).

It was assigned to Laganina by Durham (1966) and Donovan (1993); and to Laganiformes by Kroh and Smith (2010).
