Taeniaster stuckenbergi was named by Rilett (1971). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Holotype NM type 1550.

It was recombined as Strataster stuckenbergi by Jell and Theron (1999).

P. A. Jell and J. N. Theron 1999Row of carinal spines on arms not extending onto disc or to arm tips. Disc integument dorsally and ventrally (interradii) with irregularly spaced spines on papillate surface. Ambulacrals with short leg and longer foot to boot in ventral view. Adambulacrals with 6 or 7 curved, spatulate, ventral (or oral) spines, with 2 or 3 strong, straight, circular-sectionned lateral (vertical) spines. Madreporite large, circular, with slit-like aperture adjacent and parallel to amrgin for about 3/4 circumference.
