Taxonomy
Harpoceras was named as a genus. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Harpoceratinae.

It was reranked as Ammonites (Harpoceras) by Denckmann (1887).

It was assigned to Ammonites by Denckmann (1887); to Hildoceratidae by Guex (1973); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Harpoceratinae by Arthur et al. (1993), Stevens (2007) and Howarth (2013).
