Taxonomy
Pinacophyllum peruvianum was named by Stanley (1994). Its type specimen is UMIP 20947 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 85-SH-3, Shalypayco, which is in a Norian reef, buildup or bioherm reef rocks in the Chambara Formation of Peru.
