Taxonomy
Palaeodasyatis hermani was named by Halter (1989). Its type specimen is IRSNB P 5056, a set of teeth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Vroenhoen, which is in a Danian carbonate chalk in the Houthem Formation of Belgium.
