Astrea decipiens was named by Michelin (1845).

It was recombined as Synastrea decipiens by Fromentel (1886) and Baron-Szabo and González-León (1999); it was recombined as Thamnasteria decipiens by Reyeros-Navarro (1963); it was recombined as Astraeofungia decipiens by Alloiteau (1957) and Baron-Szabo (2018).
