Taxonomy
Polymorphites was named by Haug (1887) [Sepkoski's age data: J Plie-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Ammonites polymorphus.

It was assigned to Polymorphitinae by Bremer (1965), Thomson and Smith (1992), Smith and Tipper (1996), Sepkoski (2002) and Howarth (2013).
