Astrea textilis was named by Goldfuss (1826).

It was recombined as Synastrea textilis by Milne-Edwards and Haime (1850); it was recombined as Thamnastraea textilis by Milne-Edwards and Haime (1851); it was recombined as Fungiastraea textilis by Leloux (1999); it was recombined as Meandrophyllia textilis by Baron-Szabo (2008).
