Nucinella chipolana was named by Vokes (1985). Its type specimen is 398344, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is TU 999 - Farley Creek, which is in a Burdigalian marine marl/sandstone in the Chipola Formation of Florida.
