Nerita pulligera was named by Linnaeus (1767) [m. kosnik taxon no: 8822]. It is extant. It is the type species of Neritina.

It was recombined as Neritina (Neritina) pulligera by Woodring (1957); it was recombined as Neritina pulligera by Short and Potter (1987) and Landau et al. (2016).
