Fusus inauratus was named by Conrad (1833) [m. kosnik taxon no: 7048]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Fusus (Bulbifusus) inauratus by Heilprin (1879); it was recombined as Mazzalina inaurata by Palmer (1937) and Harris and Palmer (1947).
