Taxonomy
Pycnodonte radiata was named by Fischer de Waldheim (1835). It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Pycnodonta, Pycnodonte (Pycnodonte).

It was recombined as Pycnodonte (Pycnodonte) radiata by Squires and Demetrion (1990).
