Quitmanites was named by Scott (1940) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo-l]. Its type is Quitmanites ceratitosus.

It was assigned to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Parahoplitinae by Robert et al. (2018) and Ovando-Figueroa et al. (2018).
