Taxonomy
Leptophyllia dilatata was named by Reuss (1868). Its type locality is Monte Grumi, Castelgomberto, which is in a Rupelian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Castelgomberto Formation of Italy.

It was recombined as Acrosmilia dilatata by Kiessling (2014).
