Patellinidae was named by Rhumbler (1906). It is extant. It was considered unknown by Loeblich and Tappan (1984).

It was assigned to Spirillinina by Loeblich and Tappan (1984) and Kiessling (2003); and to Spirillinida by Carignano (2012).
