Taxonomy
Polemarchus gigas was named by Hitchcock (1845). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is AC 26/15-17, a footprint, and it is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Chicopee Falls tracksite, which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian lacustrine - small shale/sandstone in the Portland Formation of Massachusetts.
