Sauroidichnites polemarchius was named by Hitchcock (1837). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Chicopee Falls tracksite, which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian lacustrine - small shale/sandstone in the Portland Formation of Massachusetts.

It was synonymized subjectively with Polemarchus gigas by Hitchcock (1845), Miller (1879), Hay (1902) and Hay (1930); it was recombined as Polemarchus polemarchius by Haubold (1971).

  • Polemarchus gigas was named by Hitchcock (1845). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is AC 26/15-17, a footprint, and it is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Chicopee Falls tracksite, which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian lacustrine - small shale/sandstone in the Portland Formation of Massachusetts.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Polemarchus polemarchius by Haubold (1971).
