Batrachopus bellus
Taxonomy
Apatichnus bellus was named by Hitchcock (1858). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Roswell Field's Orchard, Gill, which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian fluvial-lacustrine sandstone/shale in the Portland Formation of Massachusetts.
It was synonymized subjectively with Batrachopus deweyi by Olsen and Padian (1986); it was recombined as Batrachopus bellus by Lull (1915), Lull (1917), Hay (1930), Haubold (1971), Gallagher and Hanczaryk (2006) and Rainforth (2007).
