Steropoides divaricatus
Taxonomy
Ornithichnites divaricatus was named by Hitchcock (1837). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Dexter Marsh's Quarry, Montague, which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian fluvial-lacustrine sandstone in the Portland Formation of Massachusetts.
It was recombined as Ornithoidichnites divaricatus by Hitchcock (1841); it was synonymized subjectively with Steropoides loripes by Hay (1930); it was recombined as Steropoides divaricatus by Lull (1917) and Haubold (1971).
