Taxonomy
Actinacis tosaensis was named by Eguchi (1951). Its type locality is Kaiseki-yama, which is in a Tithonian/Berriasian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in Japan.

It was recombined as Baryphyllia tosaensis by Baron-Szabo (2009).
