Sharpeiceras was named by Hyatt (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-l]. Its type is Ammonites laticlavius.
It was assigned to Acanthoceratidae by Benavides-Caceres (1956) and Zaborski (1985); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Mantelliceratinae by Kennedy (1994), Wright et al. (1996), Kennedy (2005), Kennedy (2013), Kennedy (2014), Sharifi et al. (2016) and El Qot (2018).
It was assigned to Acanthoceratidae by Benavides-Caceres (1956) and Zaborski (1985); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Mantelliceratinae by Kennedy (1994), Wright et al. (1996), Kennedy (2005), Kennedy (2013), Kennedy (2014), Sharifi et al. (2016) and El Qot (2018).
