Silesites was named by Uhlig (1883) [Sepkoski's age data: K Barr-l K Barr-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. Its type is Ammonites seranonis.

It was assigned to Silesitidae by Landra et al. (2000); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
