Taxonomy
Cardium hatchetigbeensis was named by Aldrich (1886). Its type specimen is USNM 638802, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Schedocardia, Plagiocardium (Schedocardia).
It was recombined as Plagiocardium (Schedocardia) hatchetigbeensis by Stewart (1930); it was recombined as Acanthocardia (Schedocardia) hatchetigbeensis by Palmer and Brann (1965); it was recombined as Schedocardia hatchetigbeensis by Woodring (1982).
