Prodiscoglossus vertaizoni was named by Friant (1944) [type is unnumbered]. It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Vertaizon, which is in an Oligocene terrestrial limestone in France.

It was recombined as Latonia vertaizoni by Sanchiz (1998).
