Taxonomy
Pterodactylus bucklandi was named by Meyer (1832). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Stonesfield Slate quarries, which is in a Bathonian marginal marine sandstone in the Taynton Limestone Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Rhamphorhynchus bucklandi by Huxley (1859); it was recombined as Rhamphocephalus bucklandi by Seeley (1880), Zittel (1890), Seitz (1907) and Unwin (2003); it was considered a nomen dubium by O'Sullivan and Martill (2018).
