Ctenochasma roemeri was named by Meyer (1851) [type is an unnumbered specimen believed to have been in the paleontological collections of the Technische Universität Clausthal, Clausthal, Germany]. It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Deister Hills pterosaur, which is in a Berriasian marine sandstone in the Purbek Kalk Formation of Germany.
