Eocaecilia was named by Jenkins and Walsh (1993). It is not extant. Its type is Eocaecilia micropodia. It is the type genus of Eocaeciliaidae.
It was assigned to Eocaeciliaidae by Jenkins and Walsh (1993); to Gymnophiona by Gardner (2001) and Maddin et al. (2012); and to Gymnophionomorpha by Kligman et al. (2023).
